At Northwestern University in the city of Illinois in the United States, a group of researchers found at least 4 different personality groups. The findings, published by the journal IFLScience, add to what is already recognized among psychologists.

Personality traits considered today

  • extroversion: Being outgoing and extroverted, with good public speaking skills, reaching out to others while renouncing loneliness.
  • neuroticism: tend to have negative emotions just as thoughts tend to lead to anger, worry, and sadness.
  • Openness to experience: not afraid to try new things, be it relationships, jobs and leisure activities.
  • Conscientiousness: makes sure to be punctual, responsible and follow all possible rules.
  • Friendliness: more introspective, ends up agreeing with other people and doesn’t express their desires as much.

Now get to know the four personality types

  • Average: They balance neuroticism and extraversion but are closed to emotional experiences. It is a common personality type in which the individual displays a degree of realistic pessimism.
  • Reserved: Pleasant and conscientious, they have a high level of emotional intelligence and organize their lives without difficulty. Responsibly limit certain interactions and stimuli that can disrupt their concentration.
  • model follows: Born leaders, able to cope with demands and delegate tasks, these people do not have traits of neuroticism.
  • Egocentric: Extroverted and able to mix qualities like openness, friendliness and conscientiousness, they tend to place great importance on themselves and value their own company.
