Sarah Michelle Gellar won’t let daughter Charlotte, 13, act until she graduates high school

Sarah Michelle Gellar won’t allow her daughter to appear on camera until she’s 18 and no longer lives with her parents.

The 45-year-old actress, who has Charlotte, 13, and Rocky, 10, with husband Freddie Prinze Jr, 46, revealed the acting rules she has for their eldest child in an interview with .

“Does it scare me to death? Well we have rules. She can’t be in front of the camera until she graduates from high school,” shared Sarah, who recently called the set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer “toxic.”

The actress continued, “She says to me, ‘This is unfair. You were a child actor.” Yes, I was. But I wasn’t the child of two famous parents.’

Gellar began appearing on television as a teenager before finding world fame in her early 20s in the title role of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

However, the Scooby Doo star clarified that she would “never stop” Charlotte from following in her footsteps, but insisted that wouldn’t happen while she was still “living under her roof”.

“I will never stop her from being on a set. But she just doesn’t get in front of the camera while she’s living under our roof. There are different expectations of her, so she has to learn everything there is first.’

Additionally, Sarah has previously stated that she will not allow Charlotte to use social media until she is older and can “understand” the nature of an online platform.

She said: “My son doesn’t care. This isn’t his world. It’s definitely something my daughter and I will discuss. It’s an ever-evolving conversation.”

“Of course there will come a time when I won’t be able to say no anymore because I will keep her away from the way her generation communicates. But I also have to wait until she gets to a point where she understands the consistency of what you’re releasing.’

The Cruel Intentions star previously compared post permanence to allowing her kids to have face tattoos, adding, “Our rules are probably stricter than most.”

“Our kids don’t have social media,” the star explained. “You can sometimes check if it’s our phones. Sometimes our children say: “You are the strictest household!” But I say: “Yes, but everyone still wants to come here!”

Gellar also compared allowing her kids to post online to getting a Paw Patrol tattoo on her face in an interview with Yahoo Life’s So Mini Ways.

“Because at this age there is nothing better than Paw Patrol. And now you are 10 and [13], and you still have those tattoos on your face and it’s not even who you are anymore. This is a very difficult concept for young children to grasp.”

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star explained that a restrictive environment creates better conditions for children to thrive in.

“I think kids need to know where their limits are and they really thrive in that environment.”

“We’re not mean, we’re not unnecessarily strict, but we have rules. And just as I abide by my code of rules, I expect the same from our children,” she added.

Gellar has certainly been protective of her children over the years, not showing her children’s faces on social media for many years. Last year, she walked the red carpet at a special screening of Netflix’s upcoming film Do Revenge – where she made a surprise cameo – and made the rare move of posing with daughter Charlotte at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, where the reception was held.
