Sanna Marin in Vienna: "Neutrality is no longer appropriate for us"

During her visit to Vienna, Prime Minister Sanna Marin at least provided food for thought for a security debate.

Vienna. For decades, Austria and Finland, right on the Iron Curtain border during the Cold War, walked side by side as advocates of neutrality. With the difference that the government of Helsinki, with 1,300 kilometers of border with Russia and a bloody history with its great neighbor, pressed for the expansion of a powerful military force.

At the end of the round of visitors to the Federal Chancellery surrounding the Opera Ball, the two heads of government stood shoulder to shoulder on many EU issues on Friday – for example their commitment to financial discipline in Brussels. At a crucial point, however, they drew a different lesson from the war in Ukraine. Sanna Marin stood behind the podium at the press conference as a sort of counterpart to Karl Nehammer.
