Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy sparks outrage as production closes Sydney Harbor Bridge

Ryan Gosling’s new film The Fall Guy took over the Sydney Opera House on Sunday to film scenes and halt the flow of traffic on one of the city’s busiest dual carriageways.

The iconic bridge was closed in both directions from 3am to 10am on Sunday, while the cycle and footpath was closed from 5.30am to 10am.

The Cahill Expressway sidewalk was closed from 2:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Frustrated Sydney residents have taken to Twitter to blast the production for causing huge traffic delays across the city.

“Great to see the closure of the Sydney Harbor Bridge – 8 lanes plus cycle/pedestrian lanes – so they could make a freaking movie. But it’s great that they can use an iconic bridge in a film because that bridge needs a bit of exposure.”

“I just want to know how much they paid the government for such an inconvenience,” tweeted another, while another added, “With film technology this certainly could have been filmed elsewhere and then re-focused to look like.” if it would have been filmed on the Harbor Bridge.’

“I just heard that the New South Wales government paid Ryan Gosling $1.5 million to film the Harbor Bridge. I hope they didn’t wake up the 100’s of homeless people calling home under the bridge,” wrote another user.

A Neutral Bay resident also told Chron Australia it was a “nightmare” when the helicopters zipped through the densely populated area in the early hours.

In the full-scale production, the bridge was filled with film equipment and a handful of cars and trucks for the epic scenes.
