Media concentration affects democracy says Atilio Boron

Rwanda accuses DRC of hiring mercenaries

He also denounced that the DRC army is fighting the March 23 (M-23) insurgent movement in the east of the country together with illegal armed groups, including the rebel militia Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda.

Such actions by the DRC “are in clear violation of the so-called Nairobi-Kenya Process, which aims to disarm and demobilize armed groups and threaten the security of Rwanda,” an official statement said.

The Rwandan executive’s statements come two days after DRC President Félix Tshisekedi said that Kigali is blocking development of the African region at the World Economic Forum taking place in Davos, Switzerland.

The Congolese government has repeatedly accused the Rwandan side of supporting the M23, an armed group that also includes elements of the Tutsi ethnic group.

As a result of the internal conflict in eastern DRC, hundreds of dead, injured and millions displaced have recently been reported from various cities including Goma, the capital of North Kivu province.
