Russian politicians reject the delivery of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant

Russian leaders rejected the G-7’s request for the Zaporizhia nuclear plant to be handed over to Ukraine. According to the Interfax agency, Konstantin Kosachev, deputy head of the upper house of the Russian parliament – the Federation Council – responded to the question of a possible return of the nuclear power plant “No and not again”. He justified this with security concerns.

To ensure the safety of the nuclear power plant, complete control over the power plant is required. “Ukrainian authorities, by definition, cannot do this under the conditions of a special military operation,” said the prominent Russian foreign policy figure.

“Sponsorship of Nuclear Terrorism”

Kosachev received support from the head of the Duma’s foreign affairs committee, Sergei Slutsky, who accused Ukraine of “nuclear terrorism”. “And all statements by the G-7 foreign ministers in support of them are nothing more than sponsorship of nuclear terrorism,” he wrote on his Telegram channel. Slutzki did not mention that the situation around the nuclear plant resulted exclusively from the Russian war of aggression.

The situation around the nuclear plant in southern Ukraine, occupied by Russian troops since March, has deteriorated dramatically recently. The facility has been hit and damaged multiple times, with critical infrastructure being spared, at least according to reports from both sides. Kyiv and Moscow blame each other for the attacks.
