(ANSA) — NEW YORK, AUGUST 11 — “Ukraine’s criminal actions against the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant are bringing the world to the brink of a Chernobyl-like nuclear catastrophe.” This was stated by Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzia during the Security Council session. “We have repeatedly warned our Western colleagues that if they don’t bring the Kiev government to their senses, they will resort to more heinous and senseless acts that will resonate far beyond Ukraine’s borders. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what’s happening now,” he added.
Meanwhile, Russian military sources stated that “the thermal power plant and the water tanks of the cooling system of the Zaporizhia NPP reactor were partially damaged by the Ukrainian raids,” but, as the Russian Defense Ministry later specified, “the critical infrastructure of the Zaporizhia NPP was damaged thanks to the.” Defenses not damaged by Russian forces.
