Russia Says Air Defense Training Held in Moscow Region

The Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday that it had held an anti-aircraft defense exercise in the Moscow region.

“A training course was held in the Moscow region with the staff of the Western Military District’s anti-aircraft missile brigade on repelling air strikes on key military industrial and administrative facilities,” the ministry said in a statement.

It said an S-300 anti-aircraft missile system was involved in the training when combat was simulated.

“As they marched, soldiers repelled an attack by a mock enemy sabotage group on a military convoy,” the statement said.

“Under a smoke screen, the air defense convoy was able to free itself from the attack and continue to carry out its tasks.”

According to the ministry, 150 soldiers took part in the exercises.

However, where in the Moscow region, which surrounds the Russian capital, the training took place, it was not said.

On Friday, the Kremlin refused to say whether the authorities were preparing for strikes in the capital.

Since launching its offensive in Ukraine nearly a year ago, Russia has suffered multiple drone strikes attributed to Kyiv, as well as some attacks on border regions.
