Russia’s vicepresident of the Security Council has called for a “preemptive strike” if the West supplies Ukraine with nuclear weapons. The statement comes from Dmitry Medvedev, who is also a former Russian president and is very close to Vladimir Putin.

“There are irreversible laws of war. When it comes to nuclear weapons, there must be a preemptive strike,” Medvedev said.

The statement was made on Friday (26th) and was released by news agencies in Russia.

In addition to the border with Ukraine, Belarus has three members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) as neighbors: Poland, Latvia and Lithuania.

In March, as a result of the war in Ukraine, the Russian government again cast the shadow of a nuclear conflict over Western countries. At the time, Vladimir Putin accused western countries of fueling the conflict by supplying arms to the Ukrainians.
