Russia denies reports of child abduction

Russia is responding to reports that the country has forcibly kidnapped Ukrainian children. “Russia welcomed children who were forced to flee the bombing with their families,” the Russian embassy in the United States said on the Telegram news platform. Russia has sent at least 6,000 Ukrainian children to institutions in Crimea or Russia, according to a report by scientists at Yale University in the United States.

“The main purpose of the fields we identified seems to be political re-education,” said researcher and co-author Nathaniel Raymond. At least 43 camps or similar facilities have been identified. According to the investigation, the kidnapped children are orphans and have parents or guardians. Some children were reportedly adopted by Russian families or placed with foster families.

Moscow denies it: “We are doing our best to leave minors in families and place orphans under guardianship in cases of absence or death of parents and relatives.”
