Rotterdam shootings at a university hospital and in a house

Rotterdam, shootings at a university hospital and in a house. The police: “There are several victims”

Two shootings occurred early this afternoon at a university hospital and a nearby home in Rotterdam, Holland, and there were multiple victims, police confirmed. Officers arrested the suspect, a 32-year-old man wearing military clothing.

The first shooting occurred in a private residence, and the house was then set on fire. At that point, the attacker would have gone to the University Hospital of the Erasmus University Medical Center, one of the largest and most prestigious scientific campuses in Europe, where he would have opened fire on students in a class before leaving the classroom to burn.

The reasons for the attack are unclear, but police confirmed that the suspect was wearing “combat clothing,” was tall, had black hair and was carrying a backpack. According to police, the man acted alone. “A 32-year-old man from Rotterdam was arrested. He is suspected of being involved in two acts of violence. We are ruling out the possibility of a second man,” the police said.

“Due to the ongoing events, we ask you not to come to the Erasmus MC,” said the campus management on its X account (formerly Twitter).
