Riverdale actor sentenced to life in prison for murder of mother

Actor Ryan Grantham, 24, best known for his role on the series Riverdale, was sentenced to life in prison after the 2020 murder of his mother.

The artist’s verdict was announced today in the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver, Canada. Ryan is ineligible for parole for the first 14 years of his sentence, according to the New York Post.

The case was described as tragic and moving by Judge Kathleen Ker. In Canada, seconddegree murder automatically carries a life sentence, but the hearing was held to establish the waiting period for applying for parole.

In March 2020, the actor shot his mother, Barbara Waite, to the head while she was playing the piano with her back to him. According to authorities in charge of the case, after the crime, the young man took money, bought marijuana, made explosives and a Molotov cocktail, and watched television.

Before bed, Ryan Grantham draped a sheet over his mother’s body and the next day he placed candles around her. Shortly thereafter, he took the car with three guns, ammunition and 12 Molotov cocktails with the intention of killing Justin Trudeau. Also in the vehicle were material for camping and a map with coordinates to reach the ruler’s house.

On the way, the artist changed his mind and went to a police station. There he confessed that he had killed his mother. Ryan Grantham is yet to testify at the trial, but prosecutors said the actor had suicidal and violent tendencies.
