According to the TSN network, Tocchet will receive this sum by the end of the 2024-2025 season. The Vancouver organization pays salaries to two former head coaches, Bruce Boudreau and Travis Green.

Tocchet’s hiring was made official by the Canucks Sunday after Bruce Boudreau was fired.

“These decisions are never easy,” said general manager Patrick Allvin at a press conference on the departure. At that point, I felt like we needed a new voice to see if we could get group buy-in.”

Boudreau practiced his last game on Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers. When the game was over, the 68-year-old sat behind the bench for a while and received a standing ovation from the home crowd.

Tocchet’s baptism of fire as Canucks head coach comes Tuesday night when his team takes on the Chicago Blackhawks, 30th overall in the National League.
