Retirement for Marie Eve Dicaire

Retirement for Marie-Ève Dicaire?

Unless the situation changes, Quebecer Marie-Ève Dicaire should confirm that she will be hanging up her boxing gloves in the coming weeks.

At least that’s the option that seemed the most likely when the 36-year-old athlete had an appointment with promoter Yvon Michel yesterday to discuss his future.

Another meeting with the entire Dicaire team is planned for next week.

“We’ll have to see if she has the taste to continue or to go in a different direction,” Michel commented briefly, admitting that the boxer seemed rather “ambivalent”.

If she ever continued her career, the plan would be to have at least one fight before she gets another shot at a world title.

But does Dicaire want to find the demanding rhythm of life that several training camps impose on him? The question is valid.

A pioneer

To date, Dicaire will have had 20 professional fights, 18 victories and made a major contribution to the development of women’s boxing in Quebec.

After making her debut in November 2015 at a gala in Sorel-Tracy, Dicaire made her final step in the ring seven years later on November 12, 2022 in Manchester, England. The Quebecer then lost an unification fight against British champion Natasha Jonas.

By a unanimous decision of the judges, she was stripped of her IBF super welterweight title.

Unforgettable evening in Quebec

In December 2018, Dicaire achieved her goal of becoming a world champion at the Videotron Center in Quebec City.

The athlete from Saint-Eustache then won against the Uruguayan Chris Namus. After three title defenses, Dicaire suffered her first career defeat in March 2021 in the USA against the American Claressa Shields.

She then defeated Mexican Cynthia Lozano at Bell Center to regain the IBF crown.
