Rescuers who worked in Türkiye are ready to return to Vietnam

The spirit and role of the Vietnamese contingent was recognized by the residents of Adiyaman, the Volunteer Force and in particular by the Coordinating Unit of the Türkiye Emergency and Disaster Management Authority (AFAD), meaning 1st Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong.

According to the VNA news agency, the deputy head of the Police Department for Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue of the said portfolio and head of the rescue team, during the seven-day work they managed to remove the bodies of 14 victims from the collapsed area in order to take them to the local authorities delivery.

The delegation also donated medical equipment and medicines to AFAD to support Türkiye’s largest hospital in Adiyaman, she added.

For its part, the rescue brigade of Vietnam’s defense ministry, working with local authorities in the city of Antioquia, capital of Hatay province, has so far helped locate 16 sites where victims of the Sept. 6 earthquake were found in February.

The head of the contingent, Major General Pham Van Ty, today reiterated his strong determination to carry out the tasks assigned to him and ensure cooperation with the international coordination bodies and the Türkiye authorities to ensure the efficiency of the rescue effort.

In a statement released here yesterday, the Vietnamese Red Cross (PRC) Central Committee called on citizens, authorities and organizations to make donations to help the people of Türkiye and Syria overcome the effects of the devastating telluric movements.

Besides the bank accounts set up for this purpose, the PRC activated an application called “Thien Nguyen” to participate in the solidarity action, which runs until May 30th.

In addition to the two rescue brigades dispatched to Türkiye, the Vietnamese government offered $100,000 in emergency aid to that nation and Syria.

Vietnamese Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son further assured the Turkish Ambassador there, Haldun Tekneci, that his country was ready to help rebuild areas affected by the twin earthquakes.

In Türkiye alone, the two accidents on February 6 and their aftershocks killed around 40,000 people, 84,000 buildings were partially or completely destroyed, and almost 14 million residents were affected.
