Renegade British prankster takes over Greek airport loudspeaker to announce six-hour flight delays

A renegade British tourist was taken away by Greek police after repeatedly making false flight delay announcements over the airport loudspeaker.

The prankster jumped into the microphone at Zakynthos Airport in Zante, Greece last Friday and falsely told passengers their flights had been delayed by up to six hours.

Sam Wilson, 22, decided to film the man’s antics after hearing the strange announcements while waiting for his flight to Birmingham.

The video shows the man standing behind the unattended counter at one of the airport’s gates, wearing a Paris Saint Germain track top and sunglasses.

Leaning into the microphone, he announces to his fellow passengers that the flight to Gatwick he was about to board has been delayed.

He said: “The flight to Gatwick is delayed by six hours.”

Adding more incorrect flight information, he adds: “Unfortunately, the flight to Manchester has been delayed by six hours.”

This announcement caused some confusion as there was no scheduled flight from Greek airport to Manchester that day.

Shortly after, an airport security guard can be seen rushing to the counter to confront the man.

A policeman – armed with a gun he appears to unleash in a moment – quickly pushes the guard back before escorting the impudent passenger away from the gate.

Sam, a sales manager, claims the man was not allowed to board his flight home.

Today Sam from Burntwood, Staffordshire said: “I flew to Birmingham but they flew to Gatwick.

“We were waiting for the gates to open when we heard some strange announcements. When I looked up, I saw him on the mic, so I had to pull out my phone.

“He made about three or four announcements about flight delays of several hours. The ones I caught was Gatwick for six hours and seeing people’s reactions was hilarious as half the airport couldn’t even see it.

Zakynthos is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea and a well-known resort popular with British holidaymakers.

Since the mid-1980s, the island has developed into a hub for 18-30 year old tourists, which has resulted in the formerly sleepy villages of Alykanas and Laganas becoming key destinations for clubs, bars and restaurants.
