Renaissance: Ubisoft is working on a collaborative game à la Minecraft

Even if Ubisoft seems to be going through one of the darkest times of its existence with many controversies and project cancellations, we can still be sure that the publisher will offer many varied and diverse games in the coming months and years.

A Minecraft-like project in the pipeline?

Renaissance Ubisoft is working on a collaborative game a la

Just a few hours ago, Jean Guesdon, one of the industry veterans who notably worked on Assassin’s Creed, announced his departure from the French company after 17 years of good and loyal service. As a farewell, the man posted a message on his Linkedin profile in which he thanked his employer for all the “people met”, the “skills acquired” and the “projects delivered”.

For more than five years, Guesdon was creative director of the Ubisoft Montreal studio on a previously unannounced title, before retiring. According to the information gathered by our colleagues from the Kotaku media, it would be codenamed Renaissance and would be a collaborative game that approaches what Minecraft in particular can offer. Three former studio employees have even claimed that this is one of the publisher’s most promising projects. If this turns out to be correct, it’s logical to wonder at the repercussions Jean Guesdon’s departure could have…

After announcing his departure, Ubisoft officials wanted to greet him by thanking him for his “strong creative vision, openness, ideas, and most importantly, his ability to put himself in the players’ shoes.” The company obviously wishes its former employee the best of luck in his future life, but we don’t know if Guesdon will find another position in the industry or if he will change course entirely.

Despite numerous departures, calls for strikes and concerns about development, Ubisoft is likely to still be marketing some games in 2023. We are thinking in particular of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Skull and Bones or Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Unfortunately, these three titles do not have an exact release date, but we hope to enjoy more details soon…
