Regina King has paid tribute to her late son, Ian Alexander Jr., almost a year after his death.

King shared a video of a lantern shining in the sky on Alexander’s 27th birthday on Instagram on Thursday.

“January 19th is Ians Worthday,” she captioned the video. “While we’re still processing his physical absence, we’re celebrating his presence. We’re all in different places on the planet…so is Ian. His spirit is the thread that connects us.”

Alexander died by suicide at the age of 26.

He was an accomplished musician and DJ who performed as “Desduné” and had released a new single, “Green Eyes” shortly before his death.

“Of course orange is your favorite color… it’s the fire and the calm. I see you in everything I breathe. My absolute favorite thing about myself is… Regina, Ian the GodKing’s mother. Keep shining bright, my guiding light,” King wrote.

Several of King’s friends and industry peers shared their love and support.

Ava DuVernay commented on the post with a quote: “I’ll make my own mind next time on who I reach out to and take as mine, just as I might be standing at a fruit stand and have decided to ignore the apples, the mangoes and the kiwis . But hold my hands over a bunch of oranges like I’m trying to warm my skin in front of a fire.- Roisin Kelly”

Justin Theroux echoed, “I love you Regina. Sending you more,” a heart emoji added.

Reese Witherspoon wrote: “I will always remember Ian and his bright spirit. I love you.”
