RBD’s footprint in Latino popular culture

Rebelde is an early 2000s telenovela that originated as a Mexican adaptation of Rebelde Way, an Argentinian production by Cris Morena. The production aired in various countries in Latin America and managed to garner followers across the region.

From this soap opera emerged the group RBD, composed of its protagonists.

In 2004, the band released their album Rebelde, which quickly earned a Diamond Record and Gold Record in Mexico, according to Universal Music Mexico. RBD made their way to Latin America, including Brazil, where the band and its members (despite starting separate projects) remain all the rage to this day.

RBD’s first album also received a gold record in Brazil and Ecuador, a triple platinum record in Colombia, and a platinum record in Chile.

A year later they released “Nuestro amor”, their second record production. RBD’s internationalization came with Celestial, their third album, released in 2006. This production received a gold record in Romania and Spain, among others.

With the production, the band also bowed to their Brazilian fans by editing the entire album in Portuguese.

That same year, they released their first English-language album, Rebels, which also had box office success with a world tour selling more than 10 million tickets, says Universal Music Mexico.

His last album was Part of Me, released in 2009.

The band’s influence is such that singers like Bad Bunny, Karol G, Becky G, Camila Cabello and others have shared videos on their social media singing some of their hits.
