Rapper Fetty Wap Jailed After Arrest For Threatening To Facetime Call: Federal Authorities

Rapper Fetty Wap was jailed Monday after he was arrested in New Jersey for allegedly threatening to kill someone and pulling a gun on a FaceTime call, federal authorities said.

The hip-hop star, whose real name is William Maxwell, had gone on a $500,000 personal acknowledgment bail for allegedly working with a crew of five other people to smuggle more than 100 kilograms of drugs on Long Island to act.

He pleaded not guilty to the broader drug trafficking case after his October 2021 arrest.

Prosecutors for the Eastern District of New York said the rapper violated the terms of his release by making the threatening video call on Dec. 11, 2021, which led to his arrest Monday.

According to an affidavit filed in his case Monday, the “Trap Queen” rapper called a man identified only as John Doe, called him a “rat,” and repeatedly threatened his life.

“I’m going to kill you and everyone you’re with,” the Paterson, NJ native said, according to court documents. Then he repeated: “I will kill you.”

“This was a direct violation of both state law and the condition of his release,” an FBI agent wrote in the affidavit.

At a bail-breaking hearing in federal court in Central Islip, Judge Steven Locke revoked the rapper’s bail, which was on trial in the drug trafficking case.

Fetty Wap’s lawyer, Elizabeth Macedonio, said her client was trapped on the phone call by someone who had posted a photo of his dead 4-year-old daughter days earlier.

“I’m glad she’s dead because her dad is a rat,” the person the rapper allegedly threatened wrote in the caption.

“He was very manipulative in trying to incite Mr. Maxwell, to upset him in a way that no parent would have to face…the death of one’s 4-year-old daughter is something no one should use as a ruse,” Macedonio said to Judge Locke.

The judge said he sympathized with anyone who lost a child but ordered the rapper arrested because he was “clearly using a gun to threaten to kill someone.”

Fetty Wap’s daughter with singer Turquoise Miami, Lauren, died in July 2021 from complications caused by congenital heart arrhythmias, TMZ reported at the time.
