In an interview, the Danish Queen Margrethe II (82) revealed exciting things about her life. And about Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Queen of Denmark, Margrethe II, says she got everything but a good image of the Kremlin chief. She remembers thinking he was “not a nice person,” the 82-year-old monarch said in an interview with Danish weekly Weekendavisen published on Friday. “I have never seen such cold eyes in my life,” she said of Putin.
Putin is now threatening Austria with further consequences
Margrethe has been on the throne of the Kingdom of Denmark for over 51 years. During that time, she met dozens of heads of state and government. Putin met her during a state visit to Russia in 2011 – at the time he was Russian Prime Minister under President Dmitry Medvedev. In 2014, she met Putin again in connection with the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy in World War II.
“Putin made us stick together”
Margrethe follows the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine on a daily basis through newspaper reports, as she recounted in the detailed and usually very open interview. She was impressed by the resilience of Ukrainians. President Volodymyr Zelensky described her as “the right man at the right time”.
She also praised Europe’s response, including the delivery of Leopard main battle tanks to Ukraine. “Putin thought he could destroy all of Europe, but he made us stick together,” the queen said.
“Queen without a filter” remains faithful to smoke
When asked if, as a smoker, she had ever thought about switching to nicotine gum, Margrethe said, “No. And now I’m so old it doesn’t matter.” Her mother also smoked to the end, as did her father.
The journalist interviewing “Weekendavisen” reports that the cigarettes are in a silver box in Margrethe’s house. They come from a Greek brand, are very strong and have no filter – the interview is titled “Dronningen uden filter” (Queen without a filter).
