Quebec Region: Business leaders less optimistic about 2023

Without burying their heads in the sand, 76% of business leaders in the Quebec region believe 2022 was a good year for their industry. As they look to 2023, their confidence plummets.

From November 7th to 25th, no fewer than 270 managers and business leaders from the Capitale-Nationale and Chaudière-Appalaches regions took part in a web survey conducted by Léger on behalf of Québec International.

Looking ahead, respondents are more cautiously optimistic about 2023, with an index of 66.2 on a -100 to +100 scale, down 5.5 from 2022.

The Confidence Index shows a high level of concern for the global economy, which has risen to the 2nd place for business concerns (28%) for 2023, behind workforce recruitment and retention.

The war in Ukraine, the sanctions against Russia, the slowing economy in China, inflationary pressures and soaring interest rates are causes for concern.
