Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani wants to take

Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani wants to take full control of Manchester United – The Athletic

Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the chairman of Qatar bank QIB and son of the former Emir, has made an offer to take over Manchester United outright.

Sheikh Yassim, who says he is a lifelong Manchester United supporter, has pledged to invest in the football teams, training ground and stadium should he take control of the Premier League side. How much he bid is not known.

Raine Group, the investment bank responsible for the sale of Manchester United on behalf of the current owners, the Glazer family, has given a soft deadline of 10pm (UK time) today to formulate the official interest in writing. Ineos owner Jim Ratcliffe is also in the running and is likely to be the Sheikh’s main competitor.

A member of the Qatari royal family buying Manchester United would spark controversy as the country, which recently hosted the men’s World Cup, has a poor record on workers’, women’s and LGBTQ+ rights.

A statement said: “Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani today confirmed his submission of a bid for 100 per cent of Manchester United Football Club.

“The bid aims to restore the club to its former glory both on and off the pitch and – most importantly – strive to put the fans back at the heart of Manchester United Football Club.

“The bid will be completely debt free through Sheikh Jassim’s Nine Two Foundation which aims to invest in the football teams, training centre, stadium and other infrastructure, fan experience and communities supported by the club.

“The vision of the bid is that Manchester United Football Club is known for excellence in football and is recognized as the greatest football club in the world.

“Further details of the offer may be released as the offering process develops.”
