The South African politician, who took the stage at the opening of “CHAN” and was later received by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, called for war against Morocco and declared in his speech: “Let’s fight to rid Western Sahara of injustice. ” .

This statement provoked strong reactions from Moroccan Internet users. In Morocco, whose team was prevented from taking part in this edition of CHAN due to disputes with Algeria, these statements were denounced as “provocation” and “lack of respect” towards the Moroccan people.

The Moroccan national team could not take part in “CHAN” due to the difficulty of traveling to Algeria to defend their title in this competition scheduled for January 13th to February 4th, 2023. The Algerian authorities did not give their consent to allow the national team to fly to Constantine via Royal Air Maroc.
