Prosecutors are asking for Dani Alves to be jailed on an alleged sexual assault charge

Footballer Dani Alves was arrested this Friday in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a woman on December 30 at Barcelona’s Sutton nightclub. The player, who currently resides in Mexico, had traveled to the Catalan capital where he was transferred to give a statement at the Mossos d’Esquadra de Les Corts police station first thing in the morning. A few minutes after 10:00 a.m., he left in a police car, already arrested. After testifying before the judge, prosecutors have requested that the ex-Barca winger be placed in provisional detention without bail.

Inquiry sources have explained that the patrol took him to the Ciutat de la Justicia in the city, where he will appear before the judge who will rule on his situation while the case is investigated. Two days after the alleged sexual assault, the woman denounced the athlete for facts. The woman’s complaint is under judicial review and is at the investigation stage, according to the Supreme Court of Catalonia (TSJC).

Alves (Juazeiro, Brazil, 39 years old) has denied the allegations. “I want to deny everything first. I was there, in that place, with more people and I enjoyed it. Everyone knows that I like to dance. Enjoy, but without invading the space of others, and if you decide to go to the toilet, do not ask who is in the bathroom to go to the toilet, ”he defended himself in a video he attached to the program Antena 3 sent Ya ahora Sonsoles. And he added: “I’m very sorry but I don’t know who this lady is, I don’t know who she is, I’ve never seen her in my life. In all these years I have never invaded anyone’s space, let alone without permission, how am I supposed to do that with a woman or a girl, by god no. Enough is enough because they hurt, especially my people, mine because they know who I am”.

According to sources close to the Mexican club he has been playing for since July, Pumas, the side are unaware of the Brazilian’s current situation as they have been counting on him to play this weekend. The Brazilian had asked for permission at a league game following the death of his mother-in-law last Saturday and was forced to travel to Barcelona as a result. reports Diego Mancera.

Alves left European football in 2022 when he finished his second cycle at Barcelona. The Brazilian decided to turn his career around when he signed as a freelancer with the Pumas, the representative team of Latin America’s most important university: the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
