Royal fans were in for a hilarious surprise today when they discovered that Prince William and Princess Charlotte had shot a brand new video together.
The Duke of Cambridge, 40, posted the Instagram video to the joint account he shares with his wife Kate Middleton, also 40.
In the short clip, we catch a glimpse of William and his only daughter, Princess Charlotte, 7, snuggling up and delivering a special message to the Lionesses, England’s women’s national football team who are set to play Germany in the final today.
In the video, William says: “We wish the Lionesses the best of luck for tonight.
A very mature looking Charlotte then chimes in: “Good luck. I hope you win Bye.” Oh, and she then waves her signature Charlotte wave. NBD.
This news – although surprising given our glimpse of the young king – shouldn’t come as too much of a shock to those who have been following the duke’s social media accounts closely. William posted several times with personal messages for the Lionesses leading up to the Finals.
How did we know the messages were “personal” messages from the Duke and not just written by his social media handlers? Because of course they bore his unique signature.
William and Charlotte’s interest in the sport has been public knowledge for quite some time. After all, he is President of the Football Association (FA) in England. Since 2006, he has held the position previously occupied by his late grandfather, Prince Philip. And when the Duke visited the Lionesses in June, they gave him three football shirts with his children’s names on the back. Upon seeing Charlotte’s, he mentioned that she was a “rising star for the future” and said she wanted him to tell the team she was a good goalkeeper.
But royal eagle-eyed fans may have also noticed a nod to Charlotte’s mother Kate in the new video. Middle Cambridge wears a polka dot outfit similar to what Middleton wore at Wimbledon this year.
The story goes on
In fact, the Duchess of Cambridge has worn polka dots eleven times recently, making it clear that the pattern is one of her favorites. Charlotte clearly shares an affinity for polka dot fashion.
