In a promotional interview for The Telegraph for his new autobiography, The Substitute, the Duke of Sussex reflected on how his older brother’s children might be affected by their position in the British royal family. Prince William is the heir to the throne, followed by his children Prince George (9), Princess Charlotte (7) and Prince Louis (4).

“As I know very well within my family, if it’s not us (me and my brother), it will be someone else,” the prince said. And even though William and I have talked about it once or twice and he has made it very clear to me that his children are not my responsibility, I still feel responsible because I know at least one of those three children will end up like this I, the deputy. And it hurts, it worries me. »

In his memoir, the Duke of Sussex said his family called him “the replacement” as a child, referring to the phrase “the heir and the replacement” (alternative), in a nod to the tradition of royal couples to have another child to get. if something happens to the heir.

“I was born in case something happened to Willy. I have been called to support, divert, divert and supplement as necessary. Maybe a kidney. A blood transfusion. From the spinal cord. I’ve been told that in a very explicit way since the beginning of my existence and have been regularly and forcefully reminded of it since then,” he writes in his book.

Buckingham Palace officials declined to comment on the prince’s claims.
