Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had a playful moment during the Trooping the Color ceremony.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen playfully silencing the younger royals while watching the parade during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Harry was seen holding his finger to his mouth as he leaned in next to his cousin Lena Tindall, 3.

His wife Markle repeated a similar gesture to the group of young girls, including Zara Tindall’s children Lena and Mia, 8, and Peter Phillips’ daughter Savannah, 11. The girls playfully mimicked the Duchess’ movement towards her.

The shushing moment has been seen before at royal events. During the Battle of Britain parade in 1990, Harry silenced his cousin Princess Beatrice when he was 5 years old. During the flyover ceremony at Trooping the Color, he put his hand over the mouth of the then 2-year-old.

QUEEN ELIZABETH OVER THE YEARS

This year, the royal couple watched the historic event from the Major General’s office overlooking Horse Guards Parade. As Harry and Markle are no longer senior members of the royal family, they were unable to watch the event with the rest of the royal family from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee marks the first time Markle and Harry have returned to the UK for a royal event since leaving England in 2020. The couple currently resides in Montecito, California.

The Trooping the Color ceremony, along with the other events during the Platinum Jubilee, celebrates Queen Elizabeth’s 70th anniversary. She became the first British monarch to achieve this monumental feat.

Friday’s activities include the Thanksgiving service, which palace-divided Queen Elizabeth will no longer attend due to “discomfort”.

“The Queen thoroughly enjoyed today’s birthday parade and flypast, but felt a degree of unease,” the palace said in a statement. “Taking into account the travel and activities required to attend tomorrow’s National Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral, Her Majesty has concluded with great reluctance that she will not attend.”
