President of Cuba congratulates the President of Antigua and Barbuda

On his Twitter account, he expressed: “Congratulations to the brotherly people of Antigua and Barbuda and to Prime Minister Gaston Browne on their renewed election victory. We confirm Cuba’s will to further strengthen friendly relations between our nations and regional integration.

Likewise, Secretary of State Bruno Rodríguez conveyed his congratulations to Gaston Browne and

reiterated the “readiness to continue to strengthen the historic bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation that unite both nations”.

The ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labor Party (ABLP) won 1,295 votes to 621 for Alister Thomas of the main opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) and Jamel Knight of the National Democratic Alliance (DNA).

Browne, 55, is aiming to become the first senior executive to win three straight general elections and solidify himself over the next five years.

Observers from the Organization of American States, the Caribbean Community and the Commonwealth of Nations (Commonwealth) observed the nation’s electoral process.

The last universal suffrage in Antigua and Barbuda was on March 21, 2018, with Browne’s party winning 15 of the 17 seats. The United Progressive Party and the Barbuda People’s Movement won the other two.

Out of nearly 99,000 Antigua and Barbuda residents, 60,916,000 were called up to take part in the renewal of the Senate and House of Representatives, up 9,000 from the previous occasion.
