The Sûreté du Québec confirms that the body found Monday afternoon in a vehicle in Stoneham is that of a 20-year-old foreigner.

Spokeswoman Béatrice Dorsainville said the identity of the man or his country of origin will not be revealed until the family has been properly notified.
“With all the information collected so far, it tends to indicate that it could be a murder,” said the police officer.
No suspect has yet been arrested after the macabre discovery.

Provincial police did not provide details of the means used to identify and locate a possible suspect.

On the Chemin des Familles hill, a gray vehicle visible at the scene Monday night was being moved or towed away. Only tire tracks and broken glass can be seen on the ground, Le Journal noted.
Emergency services were informed around 2 p.m. Monday of the presence of a lifeless body in a car.

According to information from a witness collected by Le Journal, it was a teenager returning from a bike ride who became aware of the tragedy and alerted his parents.

The surprised former mayor
Former mayor of Stoneham-et-Tewkesbury, Claude Lebel, who lives nearby, said he was just as surprised as his fellow citizens.
“It is an extremely quiet area. People live here because nothing actually happens normally, so it’s very strange,” he exclaimed.
“I think it’s a shame, it’s sad […] There are all kinds of people living around us, whether here or in the city,” replied a Boulevard Talbot resident, who preferred not to be identified.
“We don’t know why. It’s very sad. I don’t know him,” he concluded.
