Several political figures jumped into the water on Saturday afternoon as part of the Polar Bear Challenge, which aims to raise funds for Special Olympics Quebec.
Thus, in the new Lachine riverside park, Ministers Ian Lafrenière and Jean-François Roberge were accompanied by the head of the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), Fady Dagher, and other elected provincial and municipal officials, such as Enrico Ciccone, Carole Malette and Maja Vodanivic.

“This challenge aims to raise funds to fund various Special Olympics programs and takes place each winter in multiple cities across the country. At the end of the fundraiser, each participant agrees to jump into the icy water,” the SPVM said in a media release sent out on Friday.

As of this writing, the event has already raised $82,845. All donations are used to fund health programs and weekly and supervised sports activities.

“These programs enrich the lives of athletes with intellectual disabilities,” says the Special Olympics Quebec website.
Last week, the head of the Service de Police de la Ville de Québec (SPVQ), Denis Turcotte, took part in the challenge in the provincial capital.
