Paul Pogba, the French champion who has returned to Juventus after 6 years at Manchester United, returns to champion the Palestinian cause. He does this by sharing an Instagram post showing the photo of children being killed in Gaza and adding a phrase: “Allah protect the people” of the Gaza Strip. The original post – from the Islam is my deen account – reads: “Kids killed, no media coverage, no protest?”.
Pogba is no stranger to such attitudes. Just over a year ago, at the end of the Premier League match between Manchester United and Fulham, he walked down the field alongside teammate Amed Diallo and displayed a Palestinian flag received by a fan.
Pogba, who converted to Islam as an adult, also made himself heard off the field in the days of the 2017 Manchester terrorist attack: “These attacks are madness, it’s not Islam, it has nothing to do with religion,” he said . “Nobody forced me to convert, my mother is Muslim and my father is Christian,” she said in a recent interview. “Religion calmed me down.”
