Place where Princess Diana suffered an accident 25 years ago is honored

Several people went to the Pont de L’Alma in Paris on Wednesday (31st) to pay their respects to Princess Diana, who died 25 years ago, on August 31, 1997, in the tunnel of this structure.

Visitors left flowers, messages and cards at the Flame of Freedom memorial, located just outside the tunnel and considered by many to be the unofficial Lady Di memorial.

The princess was just 36 when the car she and boyfriend Dodi alFayed were being transported in crashed in the tunnel under the bridge as she tried to escape from paparazzi who were following the car on motorbikes.

Millions of people around the world mourned the loss of “the people’s princess,” as British Prime Minister Tony Blair described Diana in 1997.

“For me, Lady Di was a person of great virtue. A person who cared about social issues, a person who united all races,” said Pape Ndiaye, who traveled from Nantes to pay tribute to the princess.
