Phoebe Waller-Bridge, 37, shows support for Martin McDonagh, 52, on his BAFTA winning night

Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Martin McDonagh made a rare public appearance at the BAFTA Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Sunday.

The actress, 37, showed her support for her director Beau, 52, as his film The Banshees of Inisherin won big at the 76th EE British Academy Film Awards.

The acclaimed comedy-drama took home an impressive five gongs at the ceremony, including the awards for Best British Film and Best Supporting Actor and Actress.

Author Martin also accepted the award for Best Screenplay for a Motion Picture and looked proud as he later posed with his BAFTA.

Phoebe showed her support for her partner and cut a glamorous figure for the occasion in a sleek black dress with sheer sleeves.

She let her all-black outfit do the talking as she accessorized her ensemble with sparkling silver earrings.

The Fleabag star kept her essentials in a round black clutch bag and styled her brunette tresses into a loose bob.

She accentuated her natural beauty with a swipe of mascara and a swipe of pink lipstick, and walked the red carpet in a happy mood.

Phoebe and Martin appeared as smitten as ever as they walked arm in arm as they arrived at the event ahead of Martin’s impressive victories.

Martin cut a suave figure in black dress pants and a smart blazer, which he paired with a matching black shirt and dark tie.

He completed his look with a pair of patent leather shoes and styled his silver tresses in a natural buzz cut for the star-studded ceremony.

Phoebe and Martin have built a reputation as a Hollywood power couple and have both received critical acclaim throughout their careers.

Before Martin’s film The Banshees of Inisherin picked up five BAFTAs on Sunday, they were already amassing an unprecedented haul of 16 major awards.

The darkly funny film, set in rural Ireland and starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, has already won three Golden Globes and the couple, both dressed in black, appeared side by side at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles last month.

In addition to being nominated for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor and Actress, the film was also nominated for Best Picture, while Martin was nominated for Best Director — but lost to All Quiet On The Western Front in both categories.

Phoebe famously posed with a margarita in one hand and a cigarette in the other as she reclined on a sun lounger surrounded by awards in 2019.

She was hailed as Queen of the Emmys after winning three awards – Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Writer for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series – all for her work on the second series of the BBC sitcom received Fleabag.

The ‘Killing Eve’ creator and writer has since taken Hollywood by storm – he worked on the screenplay for the James Bond film No Time To Die and starred opposite Harrison Ford in the upcoming fifth installment of the Indiana Jones series. film series.

But away from the limelight, the couple, who live quietly in London, appear determined to remain as low-key as possible.

Phoebe has no online presence and once shared how she shyed away from social media because she “felt the pressure to be funny all the time.”

Martin is on Instagram, but it seems he hasn’t posted anything on it for over four years. He follows just 17 people, including actor Woody Harrelson and legendary director Martin Scorsese.

In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, Phoebe opened up about how she helped deal with her fame by being as uninteresting as possible.

She insisted her work was “like any other job” and that she wanted to be known for that rather than her personality.

Phoebe said: “I think when people realize you’re just as boring as the rest of us, they kind of lose interest.

“I’ve always had an instinct for that. Keep what’s really important to you as close to you as possible and try to make work more interesting to people than life.’

The biggest night in British cinema returned on Sunday night when actor Richard E Grant took the helm to present the 76th EE British Academy Film Awards.

Taking place at the Royal Festival Hall, Richard, 65, was joined by Alison Hammond to host the star-studded ceremony, while film critic Ali Plum walked the red carpet with Vick Hope.

Austin Butler took home Best Actor at the awards, beating favorite Colin Farrell in shock excitement.

The actor fought back tears as he paid tribute to the Presley family while accepting the honor after portraying the late King Of Rock in the Baz Lurhmann biopic.

Austin thanked the entire crew and team he worked with on the film and admitted he was “just trying to take it all in” as he choked back tears upon accepting the honors.

“It means everything to me,” Butler told the ceremony, still using the Elvis stretching tone he learned for Baz Luhrmann’s film.

He also paid tribute to the Presley family, who provided insight into Elvis’ life for the biopic, adding he “hopes he made them proud”.

Cate Blanchett also won Best Actress for her performance in the biopic Tar, the film’s only major win that night.

She tearfully accepted the gong as she thanked her mother and her director, Todd Field, adding that Blanchett also said 2022 was an “extraordinary year for women.”

She added that it broke down, that women’s experience was not “monolithic” and that her role as Lydia Tar was “a dangerous and potentially career-ending endeavor.”

Netflix’s German war epic All Quiet On The Western Front was the night’s big winner with a total of seven awards, including Best Picture, while The Banshees of Inisherin was a close second with five, including Best British Film and Best Supporting Actor or Actress.

The film, based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque, tied with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (2001) as the highest-grossing BAFTA-nominated non-English film in history.

Directed by Edward Berger, Felix Kammerer, Albrecht Schuch, Daniel Brühl, Sebastian Hülk, Aaron Hilmer, Edin Hasanovic and Devid Striesow can be seen in the leading roles.

During his opening monologue, Richard referenced Will Smith’s infamous slap in the face at last year’s Oscars, telling the audience that “no one gets slapped under my watch tonight.”

Smith stormed onto the stage during the 94th annual Academy Awards in March and punched presenter Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

The actor, who shortly thereafter won the coveted Academy Award for Best Actor, was later banned from all Academy events for the next 10 years and resigned from the organization.

In a speech at the Baftas, Grant said the only slaps received on Sunday were “on the back.”

“What a great year to host the Baftas,” he said.

“In 2022, cinema audiences were truly back and there has never been a better time to go to the movies.”

He added: “Well not now, I’m trying my best and nobody on my watch gets slapped tonight… except on the back.”

As the ceremony began, Carey Mulligan was incorrectly announced as the winner of the Supporting Actress Award after a translation error while deaf actor Troy Kotsur was presenting.

Oscar winner Kotsur made the announcement via sign language before a communication error resulted in Mulligan’s name being called out for her appearance in She Said.

The announcer quickly corrected the announcement and announced The Banshees Of Inisherin star Kerry Condon as the winner.

Barry Keoghan won supporting actor for The Banshees Of Inisherin, and the 30-year-old Irish actor said he “really should have planned that” before thanking his co-stars and Ireland.
