Philadelphia police will DUB light poles on city streets to prevent fans from climbing them as part of wild celebrations as the Eagles win the NFC Championship

The city of Philadelphia is preparing for the aftermath of a possible Eagles win at Sunday’s NFC Championship, and that includes daubing light poles in hopes of deterring climbers.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement that Philadelphians are encouraged to celebrate “safely and responsibly.”

The mayor’s office statement said the Philadelphia Police Department will “introduce pole greasing as a deterrent to monkey bars and light fixtures.”

Kenney added, “As Mayor of this great city, it is always a joy to see all Philadelphians united behind our beloved sports teams.

“We encourage fans to cheer safely and responsibly and wish the Eagles the best of luck in Sunday’s NFC Championship game.”

Philadelphia fans have been known to climb street poles, as many were spotted celebrating the Eagles’ recent run to the Super Bowl title in 2018, as well as during the Philadelphia Phillies’ recent run to the World Series before they of were defeated by the Houston Astros.

It was not announced which road posts would be specifically oiled or when the oil would be applied, but it was revealed that there would also be several closed roads and barricades at unnamed locations.

The mayor’s office also announced that there would be temporary no parking signs along the South Broad Street corridor and around City Hall.

The Eagles meet the Niners at Lincoln Financial Field at 3 p.m. Sunday.
