Phil Jackson advises Lakers owner Jeanie Bass

LeBron James has repeatedly expressed resentment towards Phil Jackson.

So, if LeBron’s disagreements with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka were no longer a concern…

Lakers owner Jeanie Bass is reportedly supportive of Pelinka and advising Jackson.

Sam Amick and Bill Oram of The Athletic:

Pelinka, for example, is Bryant’s longtime agent and close friend of Bass, who sources say still enjoys her full support and trust.

Sources say Jackson, Lakers legend and former fiancé of Bass, whose presence at Saturday’s victory over Golden State was highlighted by the team’s Twitter account, throughout the season, often communicated with Bass on team issues. In particular, he is known to have been interested in the complex and often uncomfortable dynamics of the Westbrook situation.

It’s no surprise that Buss is still loyal to Jackson, a two-time former Lakers coach and Buss’ ex-fiance. The 11-time champion coach (six with the Bulls, five with the Lakers) can even offer sound advice, especially in the wake of the Russell Westbrook fiasco. Jackson has a lot of experience in managing players’ egos.

But with Jackson taking over the Knicks, it’s hard to believe his basketball wisdom will last far enough into 2022.

Nevertheless, Jackson, along with Pelinka, Kurt Rambis, Linda Rambis and Magic Johnson, is part of Bass’s circle of trust. She has trusted advisors and keeps coming back to them.

Let’s see how long LeBron wants to go around in circles.
