Peter Kay’s fans rejoiced as he made a rare appearance on stage while he hosted a charity dance in aid of Cancer Research UK on Friday night in Liverpool.

The sweatband-clad comedian, 49, put on an unmissable show at the M&S Bank Arena in dazzling gold sweatpants and a white top adorned with vinyl record prints, while carrying a silver briefcase.

It comes after the prankster stepped down from public view in 2017 when he canceled a huge 14-month stand-up tour due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.

Peter was last seen at the Ivor Novello Awards in May and before that in April while touring in Manchester.

He seemed in high spirits as he entertained an audience of thousands.

One participant wrote on Twitter: “I just had the best night of my life [the show]. I can’t even describe it [it]. Three hours of non-stop dancing. Peter, you’ve been gone too long. Welcome back you legend.’

Another added: “Danced the night away with [Peter] and had a fantastic night.’

Others wrote: “Dance for Life tonight was absolutely amazing! Had the best time!’ and “Dance For Life in Liverpool last night was amazing. 3 hours of non-stop dancing. Thank you for a fabulous night.’

Fans had waited years for Peter’s return to the stage after he stepped out of the spotlight in 2017 due to “unforeseen family circumstances” and his show Dance For Life gave all proceeds to cancer research.

Peter kicked off the tour in Manchester in April, for the first time since his record-breaking The Tour That Doesn’t Tour…Now On Tour, which ended in late 2011.

And fans appeared happy with Friday’s performance as many shared their reaction on social media, with some even saying they were “emotional”.

The event is being billed as a dance athon party that will save lives – with Peter also taking to the DJ seats during the show.

Peter was due to go on a major tour from April 2018 to summer 2019, but canceled it in December 2017.

The actor said on December 13, 2017, “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.

He was previously set to make a comeback with the series of Dance For Life shows in April and May 2020 to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

But the events had to be postponed in March last year due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
