Pete Carroll says Geno Smith will start for Seahawks in Week 1 preseason

It’s been an offseason of rotations at the quarterback position for the Seattle Seahawks, between Russell Wilson’s move to the Denver Broncos in March and two untried veterans looking for another shot vying for the right to the starting job to win.

Of course, the two battling for a spot on Monday Night Football when the Denver Broncos come to town are Geno Smith and Drew Lock. There’s no need to rehash the story of either, as enough words have been typed on the subject this offseason that most fans are already weary of the debate. And while the debate over which of the two will be the regular season starter won’t be settled anytime soon, it has been announced which quarterback will start in Week 1 of the preseason.

So, for those who were hoping Lock’s performance in the mock play had brought him closer or put him ahead of Smith in the competition, at least for this week Smith has retained the starting role. Now he must show what he can do against either of the two defenses that slowed Smith down enough to hand the Seahawks a loss last season.
