Patrick Swayze’s wife says he didn’t do ‘Dirty Dancing’ sequel

Lisa Niemi opened up about her late husband ahead of the 35th anniversary of Dirty Dancing.

Patrick Swayzes Wife, Lisa Niemirecently revealed that the late actor would not have decided to take part in the upcoming Dirty Dancing sequel if he were still alive.

Swayze starred as the beloved Johnny Castle in the legendary film, which was first released in August 1987. The late actor tragically died in 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

It was first announced in 2020 that the film would have a sequel, due out in 2024. During the 66-year-old’s chat with Entertainment Tonight earlier this week in light of Dirty Dancing’s upcoming 35th anniversary, Niemi said her husband had decided against the project.

“He wouldn’t do it again,” she told ET’s Kevin Frazier. “[The way they] On the left it was absolutely perfect. There were several iterations of a script for this film, but Patrick had high aspirations and didn’t just want to do it for the money.”

She continued, “Dirty dancing was lightning in a bottle. I don’t think you can absolutely duplicate anything.”

While Niemi feels that the upcoming film could never match her beloved husband’s unforgettable performance, she still has high hopes for the project. “I think you always have to start over, but when they do, I hope it’s the absolute best and has its own character and personality and source of inspiration,” she said.

Niemi also recalled the love her late husband received from fans after Dirty Dancing hit the big screen, which still lingers in the years since his death.

“It’s really incredible,” she said. “When Patrick was alive, he used to say, ‘I’m my second generation of fans’… He was approached by young ladies who weren’t even born when the movie came out.”

The story goes on

She said what more could you wish for an artist than “to have their work live on and have such an impact in such a positive way”.

According to Variety, the filmmakers of the Dirty Dancing sequel are in talks with Swayze’s estate to include his presence in the film in some way. The late actor’s co-star, Jennifer GreyShe will also reprise her role as Frances “Baby” Houseman.
