Pastor is criticized for letting Lula go into hiding at the baptism

André Valadão responded to a supporter on the President’s baptism: “I kept it under water for about 30 seconds”

Pastor André Valadão was criticized this Tuesday (02/14/2023) after he said he would hold President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) under water during the baptism in order to “cleanse him by force”. The evangelical leader made the statement while responding to a follower about baptizing the chief executive.

“Would I baptize Lula? I would baptize … But I would put it under water for about 30 seconds to forcefully clean it,” said Valadão in a video published on his Instagram profile.

Valadão is the leader of the Lagoinha Baptist Church in Belo Horizonte (MG). He has more than 5.5 million followers on Instagram. In October 2022, she supported the reelection of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

During the election, the pastor explained that he had been subpoenaed by TSE (Supreme Electoral Court) President Alexandre de Moraes to deny that Lula was proabortion and prodrug decriminalization. However, the court denied the information and the evangelical leader withdrew.

On the networks, netizens sympathetic to the Lula government criticized Valadão for proposing to drown the president during the baptism.
