Flybe passengers were ordered not to show up for flights overnight after the airline collapsed for the second time in less than three years.

A notice on Flybe’s website told passengers that the airline was no longer trading.

“Flybe has now ceased trading and all Flybe operated flights to and from the UK have been canceled and will not be rescheduled,” the statement said. “If you are flying Flybe now or in the future, please DO NOT TRAVEL TO THE AIRPORT unless you have arranged an alternative flight with another airline.”

The statement said the airline was “unfortunately” unable to directly assist passengers flying with Flybe in finding alternative flights.

However, passengers with a Flybe booking sold through an intermediary have been urged to contact the relevant airline directly for assistance in making alternative arrangements. In its announcement, the airline announced that joint administrators had been appointed.

BBC News reported that at 03:07 local time a passenger received an email from Flybe telling them their flight had been cancelled.

Paul Smith, consumer director at Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority, said in a statement on its website: “It is always sad to see an airline go into administration and we know that Flybe’s decision to halt trading is important for all their Employees and customers will be stressful.”

“We urge passengers planning to fly with this airline not to go to the airport as all Flybe flights are cancelled. For the latest advice, Flybe customers should visit the Civil Aviation Authority website or our twitter feed for more informations.”

Flybe operated regional flights in the UK as well as some European destinations including France and the Netherlands.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Flybe was pushed into administration in March 2020. This affected the livelihoods of 2,400 employees, as reported by Portal.

In October 2020 it was bought by Thyme Opco, a company controlled by Cyrus Capital, and the airline resumed flights in April last year.

Flybe did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider.
