participation challenge "dry january": Summary of conclusion on alcohol fasting Murtal

“Dry January” is an international campaign and a practical challenge. The challenge is to quit alcohol in January. I dared to try again.

MURTAL. Like last year, I participated in “Dry Janaury” again. But this year with a slight change, because of some nasty viruses, I was sick for the entire month of December – including the Christmas break. In order not to tax my immune system too much, I started the alcohol fast in mid-December. Why am I participating in the hands-on challenge again this year? I think the campaign not only does something good for the body, but also allows you to reflect on your own drinking behavior during this time.

my conclusion

Unlike last year (“Dry January” 2022 self-experience), this year there were only small challenges for me. Ski and après ski stayed away due to illness and bad weather conditions. On game nights, I also gave up alcohol months earlier because of my self-reflection on the past year I learned that you don’t always need a glass of wine to play cards.

how much alcohol do you drink

But my abstinence is already taking effect: on the one hand, many people in my circle of friends have started to think again about their own alcohol consumption, on the other hand, I have it again this year The topic of alcohol and addiction was addressedbecause about a quarter of Styrians already drink problematically.

Why should you give up alcohol?

By the way, the winners of my self-experiment were again my friends: they always had one for a couple of weeks driver by your side.

questions that bother

A point that always caught my attention: Is it normal that alcohol is so deeply rooted in social gatherings? Be it birthday parties, after-work meetings, sporting events or club events: alcohol plays an important role everywhere. It has happened to me that to toast you are almost forced to consume an alcoholic beverage. I even go a step further and claim that you have a guilty conscience if you refuse.

If you don’t, people will complain. “Oh come on”, “just a sip” or “don’t be so rude” can be heard from all sides. Or the well-known question is asked: “Are you slightly pregnant?”. Honestly, these statements and comments are just annoying. I’m not forcing you to drink water either. Most of it is just a joke, of course. However, if you come across it every day, it starts to get on your nerves. So I wonder, is alcohol really so deeply ingrained in our culture?
