As loving as ever, she will start by reminding the girl that she knew her parents and that they were both human beings of the highest quality.

“Poor things, they were so lost in life, daughter, it was even a shame,” Filó recalls. “They went in and took care of this Tapera, this little country around. And they started living here as if they owned it.”

“We understand your connection to everything here,” she continues.

“Father and mother buried here like that,” Juma will say.

Conversation inside, that’s what Filó will say Jose Leoncio (Marcos Palmeira) never thought of demolishing the house. He justifies his threat as lip service. And that actually everyone always wanted her to live on the farm with the rest of the family to which she now belongs.

“What kind of love do you have for Joventino? That you can’t do without anything. That everything has to go your way, otherwise you’ll run away!” argues Zé Leôncio’s partner.

“I don’t have love anymore. (…) He abused my trust. Mine and the old man’s!” Juma will answer with pained eyes.

“If the old man knew how to forgive him, wouldn’t you know?” says Filo, who will remind her that the girl is expecting a child from Jupiter.

“Your father is only a distant memory for you, Juma. A grave cross over there in the corner. But your son’s father is alive. (…) Do you think it’s fair for your son to bury Joventino as his mother didn’t even have to bury your father if he were alive?”
