Joe Biden declares end of pandemic

“The pandemic is over,” says the US president. “But we still have a problem with Covid.” Hundreds of people in the United States die every day from a corona infection.

US President Joe Biden has declared an end to the corona pandemic. “The pandemic is over, but we still have a problem with Covid,” Biden said in a TV interview broadcast Sunday night (local time). “As you can see, no one is wearing a mask here. Everyone seems to be in good shape so I think the situation is changing and I think this is a perfect example of that,” the US president continued.

The interview was taped on Thursday, including when Biden visited the Detroit, Michigan auto show. The US President tested positive for Corona in July and was treated with the Covid Paxlovid drug. In late August, his wife Jill contracted the virus and was also treated with the drug.

In the US, about 390 people die every day in an average of seven days as a result of Covid 19 disease. US authorities have recently approved two corona vaccines adapted to the omicron variant. The two preparations are bivalent mRNA vaccines from the companies Biontech/Pfizer and Moderna.

Trump’s Secret Documents Are ‘Irresponsible’

Biden described the storage of several top-secret documents at his predecessor Donald Trump’s property in the US state of Florida as “irresponsible”. He wondered what information was contained in the documents that could compromise the sources. Biden emphasized that he didn’t know exactly what was in the confiscated documents.

“I didn’t ask for the details of these documents because I don’t want to get involved in the discussion about whether or not the Justice Department should take specific action.” In early August, the FBI searched Trump’s Florida mansion. The FBI confiscated several confidential documents, some with the highest level of secrecy. According to the law, this material should have been delivered to the National Archives.

Since Trump kept the records on his private property after his term, he may have broken the law. This is now being investigated. The question is whether the Justice Department will press charges against the former president. Trump repeatedly claims that the investigations are politically motivated and speaks of a witch hunt.

Spain, 1986 (104 minutes). Directed by Fernando Trueba. Interpreters: Jorge Sanz, Maribel Verdú, Manuel Alexandre.

Fernando Trueba’s fifth film strayed from the intentions of his previous two hits, Sal gorda and Be Unfaithful and Look No To Whom, to enter more intimate realms and infuse his images with remarkable tenderness. The Year of Enlightenment is an intense portrait of the youthful universe, with warm intentions, supported by a screenplay by Rafael Azcona and Trueba himself, which places the plot in the post-war period but with the aim of avoiding clichéd views. Trueba approaches his leading partner with precise tenderness, gradually letting a bitter residue take over the story. In this way, he manages to make a film that is as simple as it is emotional.

A princess, tired of court life, runs away from the palace and walks the streets of Rome with an American journalist. You’re Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck, so you can start enjoying yourself. George Roy Hill reunited Newman and Redford four years after the legendary Two Men and One Destiny to turn them into two high-ranking impostors. Some of El Coup’s interesting strengths include a juicy script that amasses twists and turns that jar the story, and a retro aesthetic that American cinema took on in its major productions of the early 1970s. Roy Hill delivers a staging of apparent transparency that skilfully plays with image detail and depth of field.

1663566983 206 Whats on TV today Monday 09192022

Melancholy. Denmark, 2011 (136 minutes). Directed by Lars von Trier. Cast: Kirsten Dunst. Charlotte Gainsbourg.

The planet Melancholy is headed for a collision with Earth where, according to one of the characters in this Lars von Trier summit, “life has been perverted.” Two years after Trier made women a devastating weapon in Antichrist, she draws a double portrait of women, that of a suffering bipolar young woman and her selfless sister, circling the earth like melancholy. There are many who brand Trier as misogynistic, but it should not be forgotten that the sufferings of its female protagonists are caused by male evil (Breaking the Waves and Dancing in the Dark) or mask their status as avenging angels (Dogville). On the other hand, just watching the action of Kiefer Sutherland’s petty character in Melancholy is enough to gauge which side the filmmaker is on. Trier delivers a film of outrageous plastic beauty, of moving emotion, in which she shows the insignificance of social conventions in the face of cosmic grandeur and turns her female characters into symbols of purity in a world without sensitivity and love.

Pan’s Labyrinth travels to rural Spain in 1944 to tell a wicked tale that revolves around a girl faced with horrors real and imagined: a mysterious faun found in some ruins and a heartless and hideous captain who is known as the paradigm of evil applies. In this way, fantasy and reality go hand in hand in a visual feast that unravels both social keys and dream havens.

Hydropower Distrust of Romaine Complex Improvement Project

Hydropower: Distrust of Romaine Complex Improvement Project

François Legault on Friday presented the idea of increasing the hydroelectric production of the Romaine complex in order to reach the target of carbon neutrality by 2050.

Hydro-Québec must increase its electricity shipments by 50%, or 100 terawatt hours (TWh), in anticipation of growing electricity demand, according to the 2022-2026 strategic plan presented by Hydro-Québec last March.

Hydro-Québec declined our interview requests considering the current electoral context.

For the prefect of the MRC de Minganie, Luc Noël, the possibility of improving production in the Romaine complex cannot be ruled out. He hopes, however, that the announcement isn’t a tactic to barrage the Magpie.

The prefect of the MRC de la Minganie, Luc Noël, interviewed in front of a forest.

If Mr. Legault decides to redo other work on the Romaine complex, we are always ready to listen to the offers that Hydro-Québec and the government will make to us. Only with the Magpie it’s an end to ineligibility on our part, he recalls.

“La Romaine is a dam that will bring us royalties, it is a dam that we are willing to renegotiate but we are not willing to sacrifice the magpie. »

— A quote from Luc Noël, Prefect of the MRC de la Minganie

For his part, the President of the Innu Council of Ekuanitshit, Jean-Charles Piétacho, shares Mr Noël’s concerns about the Magpie River, but also remains open to negotiations on François Legault’s project.

For her part, Uapukun Mestokosho, the Québec Solidaire contestant riding Duplessis and Innu by Ekuanitshit, disagrees with the idea of improving or adding new hydroelectric power stations. I think it’s a lack of respect for tribal peoples and our people. We live in a climate emergency, so we must not destroy nature, we must protect it even more, she confides in us.

Québec Solidaire in Duplessis Riding candidate Uapukun Mestokosho instead suggests asking Quebecers to reduce their electricity consumption.

In addition, the Solidarity candidate continues to advance her reflection on hydroelectric power plants. One of my dreams is that all dams built on the rivers would be destroyed so that the rivers could flow naturally, adds Ms. Mestokosho.

suggested solutions

Although the head of the CAQ claims that solar and wind energy may not be enough to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Mr. Noël would like to highlight the North Shore’s wind potential.

There are wind sites known to the government at the top of the Romaine-3 power station. Studies have been done, so there would definitely be a great wind project there, says Luc Noël.

For his part, Uapukun Mestokosho instead believes in a lifestyle change for Quebecers. It’s our way of life that needs changing and all the over-consumption that we engage in. We need to change something here to reduce our power consumption, she concludes.

For her part, Marilou Vanier, the Parti Québécois (PQ) candidate in riding Duplessis, did not want to comment before hearing the opinion of the people of the region.

Analysts on anti inflation funds to protect your money when prices

Analysts on anti-inflation funds to protect your money when prices stay high

As inflation remains stubbornly high and volatility in US stocks and bonds persists, one strategist has shared his best ways for investors to protect their income. It comes after U.S. consumer prices rose again in August, with the annual CPI remaining above 8% for six straight months. Mark Jolley, global strategist at CCB International Securities, said central banks needed to tighten further and a recession was “almost inevitable”. “For the next six to 12 months in the US … the best option is not to invest now, just wait a few months,” he told CNBC’s Street Signs Asia earlier this month. However, if investors want to get into the market, he advises them to look beyond the US and consider European inflation-linked bonds. “Because you’re going to have very high US inflation over the next few quarters, which will probably give you a decent return given how weak the euro is,” Jolley said. High inflation increases the likelihood that the US Federal Reserve will hike rates further, which tends to mean a stronger dollar. The weaker euro could then exacerbate inflation in Europe – which would result in euro inflation-linked bonds doing well. His favorites include the iShares Euro Inflation Linked Government Bond UCITS ETF and the iShares TIPS Bond ETF. Meanwhile, Morningstar said in a note last week that inflation-linked bonds issued from May to October 2022 offered an attractive yield of 9.62%, but pointed out there are some downsides. These include a restrictive buy limit of just $10,000 per year for larger investors, as well as a lack of liquidity as they don’t pay off until sold at least 12 months after purchase. Morningstar’s top picks in this area include the Vanguard Short-Term Inflation-Protected Securities Index and the Schwab US TIPS ETF. Commodity fund Jolley expects food prices to rise even more over the next 12 months, citing droughts followed by floods in the US of late. It’s a bad combination for agricultural output, and high gas prices will contribute to higher fertilizer prices, he added. He said investors could play higher agricultural prices through the Invesco DB Agriculture Fund. Morningstar also singled out a commodity fund to fight raging inflation in its recent note: the Pimco Commodity Real Return Strategy Fund. This bronze-rated fund is “one of the best commodities stocks.” The “Best Sweet Spot” As US investors scramble to manage ongoing volatility, particularly in stocks, Jolley said the “brave” might consider stocks abroad. “If you are willing to be a little bold, as a US investor I would try to accumulate stocks overseas. I would try to buy stocks in countries that don’t have a lot of debt because they bring higher interest rates, ultimately those markets are going to do well,” he told CNBC. “Right here at the moment The best place for performance is probably the A-share market because inflationary pressures in China are fading at this point,” Jolley said, referring to mainland China equity trading. His choice for a China A-share fund was the iShares A Share ETF.

Joe Biden, here in the Oval Office of the White House, in Washington, September 16, 2022.

UNITED STATES — Joe Biden said during an interview aired this Sunday, September 18, that the Covid-19 pandemic was “over” in the United States.

“The pandemic is over, we still have a problem with Covid, we devote a lot of work to this file … but the pandemic is over,” the American president told the CBS chain for the program 60 minutes.

“If you look around, no one is wearing a mask and everyone is looking pretty good,” he said. “So I think that’s changing. »

However, the coming autumn could well mean the return of Covid-19. In France, for example, certain statistics published by public health organizations in the last few days actually show a trend reversal that has been observed for several weeks.

Additionally, in the same interview with CBS, Joe Biden asserts that he has not yet decided whether he will run for re-election in 2024.

“Is it a final decision that I will represent myself? That remains to be seen,” he told CBS, but said it was his “intent” for now.

The oldest President ever elected in the United States, Joe Biden, celebrates his 80th birthday on November 20th. He would be 82 at the start of a possible second term and 86 at the end.

The United States would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion

Joe Biden also claimed that American troops would defend Taiwan if the island was attacked by China, a statement that should once again draw Beijing’s ire.

Asked on CBS if “Americans would defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion,” the American leader replied, “Yes, if an unprecedented attack took place.”

However, when asked by AFP, a White House spokesman said Sunday night that US policy toward Taiwan “has not changed.”

China considers Taiwan, with a population of around 23 million, to be one of its provinces that it has not successfully reunified with the rest of its territory since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949.

In seven decades, the communist army has never been able to conquer the island, which has remained under the control of the ROC — the regime that once ruled mainland China and now rules only Taiwan.

4 Ukrainian doctors killed to save their patients: Russian retreat targets civilians

They were evacuating their patients from the psychiatric hospital when a hail of bullets hit them, killing them. Thus, 4 Ukrainian doctors died while fleeing from the village of Strelechya in the Kharkiv region, where Kiev troops are forcing the Russians to retreat. The governor of the region, Oleh Syniehubov, quoted by Ukrinform, condemned this on Telegram.

A video released on YouTube these hours shows some Ukrainian soldiers putting up the yellow and blue flag on a liberated building in Strelechya. Apparently, the Moscow army aimed at civilians when fleeing: “The doctors tried to evacuate the patients of the psychiatric hospital – said Syniehubov – But the Russians opened fire. Unfortunately, according to preliminary data, four health workers were killed and two patients were injured “. Also in Strelechya, the Russians reportedly fired on a civilian car from a tank, killing two women.

These episodes are not isolated. In other parts of the country recaptured from Kyiv, too, the retreat of Russian troops is leaving civilian casualties: According to the deputy head of the Presidential Office in Kyiv, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, in the last 24 hours, another 8 civilians were killed and 33 injured., He explained, were killed in the Donetsk region registered five dead and 18 wounded, in Kharkiv region three dead and 11 wounded, in Dnipropetrovsk two wounded and in Zaporizhia and Mykolaiv one each. There would have been massive bombings in the Kharkiv, Chuguev, Kupyansky and Izyumsky districts.

Moscow seems to be accompanying the withdrawal with a strategy of terror. This is confirmed by the latest British intelligence report that “Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure have intensified over the past week”. The London 007 cites the bombing of dams and power grids. “In the face of setbacks at the front, Moscow has probably expanded its attack points,” the comment reads.

Meanwhile, dramatic details continue to emerge from Izium, where, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a mass grave containing dozens of bodies was found after liberation from Russian occupation. The latest bulletin from the Kiev authorities speaks of 59 bodies exhumed, including 42 civilians (including children) and 17 soldiers. Traces of torture were found on the bodies.
