A Katya Ricciarelli with an open heart she let herself go to the microphones this morning Italian stories With Eleanor Daniele on Rai1. The stories of a life shaped by a 53-year career and great passions. Of the overwhelming love for José Carreras, of which he recounted the passion “when you arrive at the hotel and leave your suitcases in front of the desire to embrace your love”, but which he decided to end after 13 years: “I have mine Ideas, and I don’t want to be betrayed so much,” said Ricciarelli, “the tenors are very courted. Girls abroad go crazy and it’s hard to resist. And then I got tired of being a forever friend,” Ricciarelli explained of the reasons for the breakup.

The lyrical soprano was not spared in the memories of another great love, the one with foo Baudo, with whom he has been one of the most popular couples among Italians for years, always in the spotlight. And just before the interview began, he wanted to give a warm greeting to Pippo: “Before I forward a question to us, I wanted to greet him with all my heart. Hi Pippo, I always recommend being fit and we all love you,” he said. “We’ve been married for 18 years, and that’s quite a few. With ups and downs of course, but I can only wish him the best, really the best,” he added.

And after retracing on the small screen some famous moments of their union and gags of famous kisses, from Pippo with Luciana Littizzetto to Katia’s “revenge” with Luca Giurato, there was no lack of judgments about another famous colleague like Placido Domingo. “Rebuke” after the recent flop in the Arena di Verona: “After a certain age it’s better to stop singing. We put in an instrument – the vocal cords – and physiologically they wear out and transform. What I accuse him of is changing registers. To have gone from a great tenor to a baritone”. He also addressed the issue of sexual harassment the colleague had recently been involved in, explaining in relation to the #meetoo that she has been courted throughout her long career without ever having suffered any real harassment.

My greatest failure: Iva Zanicchi, whom he never got over

Regarding the concerts, Ricciarelli also spoke about King Charles of England and Lady Diana: “He’s a big music addict, he always came to see me in Covent Garden, sometimes in an official way in the royal box, but then he got himself tricked the proscenium and threw me flowers, I felt like a queen. Dame Diana no. She loved pop music, she was a rebel who didn’t play by the rules, she favored Elton John,” he recalled. Returning to the present and love, the lyrical tenor said: “I have decided to live alone with my little dog and say enough to love. I’ve already given that and I’m fine with my loneliness, which is sometimes very good. When I feel the need for company, I have my friends, I’m fine,” he concluded.

“Império da Luz” mixes cinema and social relationships in a beautiful but superficial film; g1 already seen

When the first pictures of “Império da Luz” were published (see trailer below), gave the impression that the new film by Sam Mendes was released three years later “1917”, would focus on the magic of cinema and how it is built in cinema halls such as the classic “Cinema Paradiso”. Not quite.

The feature, which opens the Rio 2022 Festival this Thursday (6th), and has yet to set a release date in Brazil, really shows the charm of films and their effect on people who work in cinemas. But that’s just a small part of what the Oscarwinning American Beauty filmmaker hopes to explore in his new work.

So the director (who also wrote the screenplay) sets his story in the coastal town of England, where Hilary Smalls (Olivia Colman, Oscar winner for “The favourite”), manager of the cinema Empire. His life is basically home to work, without much emotion and to make matters worse he has an unresolved affair with his boss, Mr. Ellis (Colin Firth, Oscar winner for ‘The King’s Speech’).

Until one day a new collaborator, Stephen (Michael Ward, Bafta winner for “Small Axe”, available on Globoplay), comes to the cinema. Soon, Hilary and the young man become friends, and the relationship becomes more and more intimate. But some troubles from her past and the whirlwind of things happening in the country end up shattering her life.

Império da Luz already draws attention for its incredible technical part, mostly signed by the director’s regular collaborators. A good example is the beautiful photograph signed by Roger Deakins (who won the Oscar for “1917”), which adopts a drier tone at the beginning of the film to emphasize the protagonist’s boring life. She gradually gains color as she breaks out of her routine.

In addition, Deakins manages good sequences, as in the scene where the characters watch the fireworks at the New Year’s Eve party or when showing the films being shown in the cinema. The pictures underline the good quality of the project and can be remembered with awards in 2023.

Another highlight is the fine soundtrack, signed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (twotime Academy Award winner for Best Soundtrack for The Social Network and Soul), collaborating with Mendes for the first time. Without exaggeration, the music they created sets the simple and dramatic tone that the film demands.

The film also shows that Sam Mendes, writing the screenplay for the first time himself, is still a better director than a screenwriter. the filmmaker of “007 Operation Skyfall” He still proves very good at leading his cast and getting the right emotions out of his actors. However, he cannot maintain his level as a writer.

This happens because Mendes wants to deal with several topics such as loneliness, melancholy, racism, machismo and other topics at once and does not get any further depth. Everything is very superficial and the viewer is not able to reflect much on what is happening on the big screen.

At least the relationship between Hilary and Stephen, the film’s mainspring, is not as Manichaean as usual when it comes to showing relationships between people of different ethnicities, whether romantic or friendly (such as “Green Book: The Guide”). The feature shows how one changes the life of the other without forcing the bar and with more compelling solutions.

Hilary (Olivia Colman) and Stephen (Michael Ward) in a scene from the movie Empire of Light — Photo: Disclosure

In fact, one of the greatest merits of “Império da Luz” is the good choice of the protagonist duo. Olivia Colman continues to steal scenes with great talent and convinces by showing the complexity of her Hilary, who sometimes proves sane, only to soon show unstable behavior thanks to her traumas.

The littleknown Michael Ward, on the other hand, is not intimidated by the awardwinning actress “My father” and proves its brilliance on stage, whether in the most relaxed moments or in the denser sequences. Aside from Coleman, the actor has a good partnership with Toby Jones (Armin Zola from the Captain America films), who plays projectionist Norman, who is responsible for the film’s most poetic moments.

5 of 5 Colin Firth and Michael Ward work together in a theater in the movie Empire of Light — Photo: Disclosure

As for Colin Firth, his portrayal fits his dubious character and is quite functional in a pivotal scene of the film. But it doesn’t quite stand out like Colman and Ward. Also because his character is not that prominent in the plot. The rest of the cast is satisfactory.

“Empire of Light” finally achieves its goal of captivating audiences, even more so for those who love watching a movie on a big screen. But it lacked a little more care in telling his story. It’s not the best feature of Sam Mendes’ career, but it’s worth the ticket. After all, watching films in the dark of the cinema retains all its charm.

Foreign Students Ottawa lifts work time cap

Foreign Students | Ottawa lifts work time cap

(Ottawa) Companies that employ foreign students will soon be able to offer them more shifts. Immigration Secretary Sean Fraser announced Friday morning that the 20-hour limit that this group of workers can work will be temporarily lifted.

Posted at 10:52 am

Split

Foreign students can currently work off-campus for a maximum of 20 hours during their studies. The lifting of that work-time cap is effective from November 15 through the end of 2023. “That means 500,000 students who are already here have the opportunity to work more if they choose to,” Mr. Fraser said.

This new measure is intended in particular to counteract the current labor shortage and help companies to recover from the pandemic. “We are struggling with a massive labor shortage across the country. Our employers are struggling to find and retain the labor force they need during this period of economic recovery and growth, and immigration has a role to play in meeting that need,” the minister said.

Mr Fraser argued that this could help entrepreneurs, particularly as the holiday season approaches.

The Liberal also pointed out that the workplace is an inclusive place for foreign students. He nuanced that the goal isn’t for students to prioritize work at the expense of their studies, but that it can be a great opportunity to gain work experience.

During his press conference, Mr. Fraser mentioned Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) pilot project, which aims to automate the processing of applications for study permit extensions. Those motions already have a high approval rating of 96% this year and 97% last year, but Minister Fraser said Canada “can do better”.

He specified that no renewal requests are automatically rejected and that more complex files are analyzed by agents.

Currently, the pilot is limited to a small group of people, but if successful, it could be expanded to reduce application processing times.

The CH in Gander: an autograph from Cole Caufield in the forehead

“You get off the bus and you see all these young people, it takes you back to when you were that age. So you try to enjoy the moment and get the kids involved in the experience as much as possible,” Gallagher said.

Some had strange ways of getting involved. For example, a young fan asked Caufield to autograph him…on the forehead.

“That was a first. I told him it was a sharpie and permanent. He insisted anyway, so I did it,” laughed the Canadian forward.

The Queen, Churchill and the Beatles

The CH and Senators players aren’t the first celebrities to set foot in Gander. Even compared to those who have preceded them, they are far from holding the top of the pavement.

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Winston Churchill, Fidel Castro, The Beatles, Albert Einstein, Frank Sinatra:
all have already set foot in this small Atlantic town. At least they entered his airport.

It must be said that Gander International Airport was used as a refueling point for transatlantic flights at the time of its construction (1938) and until the late 1960s. So the passengers would loosen their legs while the gas station attendants at the airport filled up.

A face lift for George

The $250,000 prize she won allows Twillingate, winner of the 2020 Kraft Hockeyville contest, to renovate her run-down rink.

The George Hawkins Arena was built in 1968 using parts from one of the hangars at Gander International Airport.

Today the roof of the company is leaking, the compressors are rupturing and the life expectancy of the Zamboni is coming to an end.

For the record, George Hawkins is a Canadian World War I soldier who died on July 1, 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. 57,000 soldiers of the British Empire died that day.

Remember those Radio-Canada commercials that ended with “an hour later at the Maritimes”? Well, she wasn’t entirely honest.

Interestingly, Newfoundland (and the southeastern part of Labrador) has its own time zone. One and a half hours ahead of Eastern Time.

No other region in the world is in the same time zone. Still special to be unique.

‘I don’t know what else the NFL can do’: Defending the league amid Tua Tagovailoa concussion controversy, Aaron Rodgers insists players need to self-control: ‘Be smart…we need to be about our long-term health think.”

  • In London, Rodgers said there wasn’t much more the league could do about concussions after Tagovailoa may have suffered two in four days
  • The Packers are the last NFL team to play a game in London and Rodgers will make the trip worthwhile – attending tonight’s USA-England game at Wembley
  • He spoke about his love of ‘football’ and a time when he met Steven Gerrard
  • Click here for all your latest international sports news from

Aaron Rodgers showed his charm while showing his wry humor and support for Manchester City when he faced British media for the first time.

And the 38-year-old Green Bay Packers quarterback, a four-time MVP, also said he’s pleased with the level of protection the NFL provides against concussions – but urged players to self-police.

“I think it’s enough,” he said when asked about the level of protection the NFL offers players. “I just think we need to monitor ourselves too and be smart about it. The players want to be out there. But we have to think about our long-term health.

“I think we all know the difference between being shaken and having a concussion. There is definitely a difference. I’ve had a few on the field and there’s a difference between getting nailed and going to the sidelines, maybe your jaw or neck hurts a bit and you actually have a concussion.

“I don’t know what else the NFL can do. I don’t always defend the NFL with every decision they make. Every topic should be up for discussion. When it comes down to it, there are independent folks on the sidelines looking out for those hits. I think you have to keep a closer eye on these special pieces.

“Obviously you looked back at the game with Tua – you go back to last week – you saw him kind of stumble after a goal. I think we all know what was going on there.

“For Tua, I understand the predicament. You want to be out there and keep playing, but we all need to think about our long-term health because we know the effects of CTE are well documented and there’s research on it. I don’t know what else the league can do. We try to pull guys off the field. As I said, there are several people who are looking for specific head injuries. We must monitor ourselves.”

In a wide-ranging press conference, the Green Bay Packers quarterback revealed that he was blown away during a chance meeting with Steven Gerrard at a Beverly Hills clothing store.

“I had a chance encounter with Steven Gerrard when he was playing for the Galaxy. It was one of those rare times in life that I was star struck, and we were like a Beverly Hills shop. I got an outfit for the ESPYs or something and was just stunned.

“I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ I looked around and nobody knows who he is. I think it must have been nice for him to be across the States and have some anonymity because of the fame he has for his career over here.

And Rodgers will also be cheering for the USWNT as they take on the Lionesses at Wembley tonight, despite Green Bay landing earlier today.

“Tonight I’m watching the US national team! Obviously the lionesses are the Eurochamps. So it’s a friendly game, it’s a competition. Yes, I want to get out into the city a bit. We obviously came later in the week. So I’m not sure if I’ll see Manchester City tomorrow.

Rodgers has backed City after watching Amazon’s All or Nothing about the 2017-18 season and spoke about meeting Pep Guardiola and others when Manchester City played Bayern Munich at Lambeau Field in July.

“I went into the dressing room and met De Bruyne. We swapped a few jerseys together. They have an interesting coaching staff, lots of Spaniards on that staff who were damn funny. Pep was great. It was fun to have something like that at Lambeau. We’ve had some interesting concerts over the years. We don’t get many big acts through our tiny town so it was really cool for all of us to see Bayern Munich and Manchester City play there.

Two teams with winning records play in England for the first time, with the 3-1 Packers receiving a nominal 3-1 win from the New York Giants on Sunday.

Due to the NFL’s expansion to 17 regular-season games, Green Bay gave up a home game to play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is the 32nd and final team to play a regular season in England.

“We’re too big a draw in the States. With 17 games, we’re finally coming by,” Rodgers said.

“I’ve always dreamed of seeing a big concert or football match at Wembley so I’ll be there tonight. But the games have always been great – this is the first game between teams with a track record, I think, in London. It is about time we were here.”

Families traumatized by attack in Thailand cling to killed children’s toys

  • Ex-cop kills 34 with knife and pistol at daycare center
  • After the attack, he killed his wife and son and turned the gun on himself
  • The police portray the attacker as stressed out by marital and financial worries
  • Thai flags fly at half-mast on buildings to mourn the attack

UTHAI SAWAN, Thailand, Oct. 7 (Portal) – Grieving relatives sobbed and clutched toys at a daycare center on Friday, a day after a former police officer killed 34 people, most of them young children, in a knife-and-gun rampage that has Thailand horrified.

Government buildings flew flags at half-mast to mourn the victims – 23 of them children – of the slaughter in Uthai Sawan, a city 500 km (310 miles) northeast of Bangkok, the capital of the largely Buddhist country.

After leaving the daycare center filled with the dead, dying and wounded, the ex-officer went home and shot his wife and son dead before turning his gun on himself.

Register

Police identified the attacker as Panya Khamrap, 34, a former police sergeant who had been fired on drug charges and was on trial on a drug charge.

It was not clear if Panya was still using drugs. An autopsy report showed he had not used them on the day of the attack, national police chief Damrongsak Kittipraphat said on Friday.

“The reasons are probably unemployment, no money and family problems,” he said, adding that the attacker and his wife had “a long history of issues.”

A witness, Kittisak Polprakan, said he saw the attacker calmly walk out of the daycare center – a pink, one-story building surrounded by lawn and small palm trees – after the massacre “as if he were just going for a normal walk”.

“I don’t know (why he did that) but he was under a lot of pressure,” Panya’s mother told Nation TV, citing her son’s debt and drug use.

Most children, between the ages of two and five, were dismembered while adults were shot dead, police said, after one of the world’s worst child deaths in a massacre by a single killer in recent history.

Police officer Chakkraphat Wichitvaidya told Portal autopsies showed the children had been slashed open with a large knife, sometimes multiple times, and adults shot dead.

Three boys and one girl who survived were being treated in hospital, police said.

“I IMMEDIATELY KNEW”

The aunt of a three-year-old boy who died in the slaughter held a stuffed dog and a toy tractor on her lap as she recounted how she rushed to the scene when the news first broke.

“I came and saw two bodies in front of the school and knew immediately the child was already dead,” said Suwimon Sudfanpitak, 40, who had been looking after her nephew Techin while his parents were working in Bangkok.

Another of the dead was Kritsana Sola, a chubby two-year-old who loved dinosaurs and soccer and was nicknamed “Captain”. He just got a new haircut and is showing it off proudly, said his aunt Naliwan Duangket, 27.

Late in the afternoon, relatives howled in pain as funerals were to be held at Wat Rat Sammakhi. Some collapsed and had to be laid on straw mats and fanned by medical staff.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-Ocha met the victims’ families in a sweltering compound full of police and media after laying flowers and observing a minute’s silence outside the center.

The government will do its best to take care of the families and the prime minister has asked everyone “to be strong to face this great loss,” government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said.

Late on Friday, King Maha Vajiralongkorn visited the hospital where the injured were taken, according to photos released by the government’s PR office.

Portal graphics

Photos taken at the center by rescuers and provided to Portal showed the tiny bodies of those killed on blankets. Abandoned juice boxes lay scattered on the floor.

“He came up to me and I begged him for mercy, I didn’t know what to do,” one distraught woman told ThaiPBS, fighting back tears.

“He didn’t say anything, he shot at the door while the children were sleeping,” said another woman, distressed.

When the attack began, there were about 24 children at the center, fewer than usual as heavy rain had kept many people away, district official Jidapa Boonsom said.

Hundreds of people expressed their condolences on the Uthai Sawan Child Development Center’s Facebook page under his last post before the massacre, an account of the children’s visit to a Buddhist temple in September.

In a message, the Vatican said Pope Francis was deeply saddened by the “horrific attack,” which he condemned as an “act of unspeakable violence against innocent children.”

The massacre was among the worst involving children killed by one person.

In Norway, Anders Breivik killed 69 people, mostly teenagers, at a summer camp in 2011, while the death toll in other cases in 2012 includes 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, 16 at Dunblane in Scotland in 1996 and 19 one school in Uvalde, Texas, this year.

Gun laws are strict in Thailand, but gun ownership is high compared to some Southeast Asian countries, and illegal guns are rampant, with many imported by torn neighbors.

Elon Musk’s latest promise to buy Twitter cannot be trusted, the company told a Delaware Court of Chancery judge yesterday.

“Now, on the eve of the trial, the defendants say they intend to close down after all. ‘Trust us,’ they say, ‘we mean business this time,’ so they’re asking to be exempted from a billing in the main,” Twitter wrote in a filing, denying Musk’s request for a stay of trial. “To justify this discharge, they are proposing an injunction giving them an indefinite period of closure based on a conditional retraction of their wrongful termination notices coupled with an express caveat of all ‘claims and defenses in the event that it does not result in a Graduation is coming.’ The defendants’ proposal is an invitation to further mischief and delay.”

While Musk told the court that the debt financing needed to complete the purchase was on track, Twitter’s filing said there was a problem:

Just this morning, a company representative from one of the lending banks testified that Mr. Musk has not yet sent them a credit notice or otherwise informed them that he intends to complete the transaction, let alone on a specific timeline. The bank further testified that the key task necessary to close the deal — commemorating the debt financing — could have happened in July, but not because Mr Musk was pretending to exit the deal.

Judge Kathaleen McCormick granted Musk’s request for a stay yesterday, preventing the trial from starting as scheduled on October 17. But she seems to have heeded Twitter’s concerns because McCormick’s granting of the stay does not give Musk “an indefinite time to close.” If Musk doesn’t finalize Twitter’s purchase by October 28, a new trial would be scheduled for November.

“This promotion will be suspended until 5pm on October 28, 2022 to allow the parties to complete the transaction. If the transaction is not completed by 5 p.m. on October 28, 2022, the parties are directed to email me that same evening for November 2022 negotiation dates,” McCormick wrote

Musk is the obstacle, says Twitter

Musk’s request for a stay criticized Twitter for wanting to continue the litigation, claiming that “Twitter will not take a yes answer” and “recklessly jeopardizing the deal and gambling with the interests of its shareholders.”

Twitter’s response states that Musk should have completed the merger a long time ago:

The impediment to ending this litigation is not, as defendants say, that Twitter is unwilling to take a yes for an answer. The obstacle is that the defendants still refuse to accept their contractual obligations. For months, the defendants have pursued increasingly implausible claims and repeatedly attempted to delay the matter in order to enforce the merger agreement. Discovery has shown that each and every one of these claims is completely unfounded. Defendants have also been found to have repeatedly breached their obligation to use their best efforts to seek closure. The merger should have been completed long ago, as Defendants’ recent concessions confirm.

Musk’s filing said that “debt-financing parties are working cooperatively to fund the closing, and closing is expected on or about October 28.” However, Twitter’s response said the defendants “refused to commit to a closing date.” . They are demanding an indefinite exit at the expense of Twitter shareholders (who owe $44 billion in debt plus interest) while remaining free to change their minds.”

“Twitter is entitled to its day in court”

Twitter wrote that Musk’s proposed appointment seeks a stay.[w]without admission of liability and without waiver or prejudice [their] Claims and defenses.” Twitter said this provision would allow Musk to “invent new reasons” to avoid completing the merger.

Twitter also said Musk provided “no justification” for not having already completed the merger and violated the obligation to use “reasonable efforts” to complete the merger and to do “everything necessary, reasonable or advisable” to complete the merger funding at or before closing.” The merger agreement requires Musk to close the deal within two business days of all conditions being met, a date that “came and went on September 15,” Twitter said. (The Twitter -Shareholders approved the merger on September 13.)

Twitter’s filing ended with a request to keep the October 17 hearing date – but also said the merger could be finalized next week. “Until the defendants commit to closing as required, Twitter has until its day in court to establish its entitlement to a particular benefit and to establish the defendants’ violations to ensure full exoneration in the event that the closure is for any reason.” reason does not materialize,” the filing said. “Defendants can and should close next week. Until they do, this lawsuit is non-contentious and should go to court.”
