The member for Saint-Jérôme was among those whose absence was noted during the swearing-in ceremony of the 30 cabinet members.

In a message posted to social media on Wednesday morning, the right-wing economist said a “step back” was “necessary to put things in perspective”.

“I will not hide my disappointment at not being called up,” admits Mr. Chassin.

After four years as Parliamentary Assistant to Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon, a mandate that enabled him to “make a tangible contribution to regulatory relief”, the MP arguably expected Saint-Jérôme to have a place with the Saint Saints.

While rumors have suggested that Quebec Conservative Party leader Éric Duhaime may be courting Mr Chassin to recruit him, as he had done with Claire Samson, the main prospect apparently intends to remain loyal to François Legault.

“The CAQ has been given a strong mandate to keep moving Quebec forward. I am proud to be part of this team and like all CAQ-MNAs, I want to do my best to contribute,” writes Mr. Chassin.

Invasive fungal infections are a growing public health threat. Each year, these pathogens cause about 1.5 million deaths worldwide, as many as tuberculosis and more than malaria, and cases are increasing worldwide due to several factors. One of the most important is the result of advances in modern medicine and access to therapies and interventions that damage the immune system, such as chemotherapy or transplants, since this type of infection mainly affects patients in this risk group. These conclusions are part of the World Health Organization’s list of the most dangerous human infectious fungi, some of which have developed resistance to drugs of concern. It’s the same step as in 2017 with the superbugs, whose multi-drug resistance to antibiotics alarmed the authorities. Estimates now put the number of deaths caused by these microorganisms at 1.27 million.

“And the same thing has been observed to happen in fungi,” says Ana Alastruey-Izquierdo, a researcher at the Carlos III Health Institute’s National Center for Microbiology in Madrid. “Another problem with fungi is that there aren’t as many diagnostic tools and very few antifungal drugs available. So when the resistance increases very quickly, we run into a serious problem and that’s why it was the right time for it,” adds the 41-year-old from Madrid, who led the group of technical experts for the WHO report, a study 400 people have contributed and for which 6,000 documents have been viewed. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has held a 14-point lead over his Democratic opponent in a new poll — in a race the Democrat is warning Charlie Crist could set the table for his opponent’s presidential nomination.

According to the University of North Florida’s Public Opinion Research Lab poll, most Floridians have already made up their minds. Just 4 percent said they were undecided and less than 1 percent said they would vote for another candidate.

It comes days after a debate in which DeSantis refused to commit to a four-year term amid speculation that he could run for the Republican nomination in 2024 — something he didn’t rule out, despite interest from former President Donald Trump .

“What’s surprising about these numbers is that a statewide race in Florida is more like a blowout than a recount,” said Dr. Michael Binder, faculty director of the research lab that conducted the survey.

“Florida has become a red state, it will likely take an exceptionally weak Republican candidate for the Democrats to win statewide — and Rubio is not a weak candidate,” he told the Tallahassee Democrat.

A blowout win by DeSantis would only keep him focused on his potential presidential prospects in a state borne by former President Donald Trump.

President Joe Biden is traveling to Florida next week to hold both a rally and fundraiser for Crist, a former Democratic member of Congress who served a term as Florida governor as a Republican and independent.

It will take him back to a state he visited, accompanied by DeSantis, after Hurricane Ian hit the state’s Gulf Coast.

“Why don’t you look the people of the state of Florida in the eye and tell them if you get reelected you’re going to serve a full four-year term as governor,” Crist asked his rival.

“Will you serve a full four-year term if re-elected as Florida governor? It’s not a difficult question. That’s a legitimate question.”

DeSantis paused for a long time as the debate crowd cheered the question.

“I know Charlie is interested in talking about 2024 and Joe Biden, but I just want to make things very, very clear,” DeSantis shot back. “The only worn out old donkey I want to put out to pasture is Charlie Crist.”

In another recent poll released Friday by Florida Atlantic University, DeSantis led 51-40 among likely voters. Rubio’s lead over Deming’s was narrower – he led the former sheriff by 48 to 42 percent.
