A 5yearold girl was brutally attacked by a dog on February 7 while walking with her mother at a park in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. The accident happened after the girl was invited by the owner herself to pet and play with the animal.
“My daughter wanted to pet the dog when out of nowhere it turned around and bit her in the face,” said Florian Becker, the child’s father, in an interview with WSVN 7 News.

He says that after the attack, the mother, Amanda Chalfant, tried to pull the animal’s collar, but it broke and the dog attacked the girl even more violently than the first time. Amanda used all her strength to separate the animal from her daughter with the help of the owner.
When he finally pulled her apart, her face was covered in blood and bruises, so she was taken to the nearest hospital to have 50 stitches on her face.
The animal’s breed was not disclosed, but authorities took it to the Broward County Division of Animal Care. All that was said was that it weighs 30 kg and is 6 years old.
Becker said the bruising and swelling had gone down and there was no sign of infection. But he reiterates that it’s still too early to know if any facial nerves were damaged, and particularly the trauma the situation presented to his daughter.
