Our cinema is present in Hollywood

A month before the Oscars, the craftsmen of Canadian (and Quebec) cinema are giving themselves a showcase in Hollywood thanks to several billboards celebrating the talent of our filmmakers.

These posters, with slogans like “Politely Kicking Ass” (“Politely, we’re doing an incredible job”), were unveiled last weekend as part of an orchestrated campaign by the organization NOUS | set up at various locations in the cinema capital MADE.

This is of course a tribute to Canadian filmmakers who have been shining in Hollywood for a number of years, such as Quebecer Denis Villeneuve (Dune), James Cameron (Avatar) or Sarah Polley (Ce qu’elles dire). Cameron and Polley have also received multiple nominations for the 95th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 12th.

“It’s important to celebrate who we are and be proud that our talents are exported,” stresses actor François Arnaud over the phone. The actor, who recently starred in the romantic comedy December 23, traveled to Los Angeles last weekend to promote this initiative, which is supported in particular by the Canada Media Fund and Telefilm Canada.

appreciate success

Quebec comedian Yanic Truesdale, who has been in Hollywood for more than 20 years, didn’t hesitate to get involved in the campaign.

“I think it’s a great initiative to bring the actor well known for his roles on Gilmore Girls and The Guys to life.

“I remember when I moved here [à Los Angeles] Trying my luck as an actor 23 years ago was frowned upon and viewed with skepticism. But things have changed, and today we’re seeing more and more Canadians and Quebecers breaking into Hollywood. I think it’s good that we value and celebrate people who are successful outside of our borders. Because I think for too long in Quebec we’ve tended to apologize for our success abroad. »
