The Canadian government on Saturday announced new measures aimed at facilitating the immigration process for Turkish and Syrian citizens already in Canada, a month after the earthquake that killed more than 50,000 people in those two countries. “Turkish and Syrian nationals can continue to study, work or visit their families by applying for a free extension of their status,” the Ministry of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship said.

For example, they can apply for a work permit that allows a foreigner to work for any employer for a specified period of time. “These measures will make it easier for Turkish and Syrian nationals to extend their temporary status in Canada,” he said in a statement. They are valid from March 29th to September 25th.
