Original Coronation Street star Ernst Walder, who dated creator Tony Warren, has died aged 94 as a former writer pays tribute to the soap

Coronation Street star Ernst Walder has died aged 94 after starring as one of the original cast members on the soap opera.

The actor passed away in September 2021, his death was announced on Thursday as former writer paid tribute to Daran Little.

Seriously starred in Corrie’s earliest years as Ivan Cheveski, son-in-law of Cobbles matriarch Elsie Tanner, and even dated series co-creator Tony Warren in the 1960s.

Daran shared his tribute on Twitter, writing: “Very sad to read of the death of dearest Ernst Walder.

“An original C St actor who quickly became Tony Warren’s boyfriend before Tony caught him in bed with another actor.

“Ernst would send my sons chocolates every Christmas and he was the loveliest man.”

While Ernst had passed away months earlier, his death was revealed through a post on the Coronation Street blog.
